Hearty Sweet and Savory Beef Stew in Crockpot

Hearty Sweet and Savory Beef Stew in Crockpot

Recipe by BlessedCockersCourse: DinnerDifficulty: Easy

This was a great meal that both our picky eater and our "I love all food" dogs enjoyed. I'm writing this recipe in a hurry because I don't want to forget what we did.
I also add garlic to everything as it's very good for their health and helps keep fleas away. This last year we have had a heck of a time with fleas due to a lot of traveling (thousands of miles for family medical emergencies) and we don't give them medical prevention that can lead to illness. So we add garlic in their diet consistently which helps tremendously.

Ingredients

  • 6 lbs Ground Beef

  • 3 sweet potatoes

  • 4 radishes

  • 1 cup whole hard red wheat

  • 1 banana

  • 1 cup microgreens

  • 1 cup oats

  • 1 large apple

  • 3-5 garlic cloves

Directions

  • Start by taking your whole wheat and soak it for 4-8 hours. This helps with the cooking process and helps your dog to be able to digest it easier.
  • In the crockpot on high add the 6 lbs of meat. Cook on high for 2 hours - drain off any extra fat. Keep it! You might need it at the end.
  • In a blender add the banana, micro-greens, apple, radishes, and add a little of the extra fat liquid you got from the crockpot. If your dog does not struggle to eat you can skip this step and throw it in the crockpot, but be sure to cut everything into bite size pieces for your dog.
  • Throw everything from the blender, the sweet potatoes, and hard red wheat into the crockpot and let it cook on low for another 2 hours.
  • At the very end - add the oats if there is not enough liquid you can add back the fat or you can add bone broth or water to help the oats cook.
  • Let cool fully - you can from here choose to put it in a large tupperware or ziplock container to store it in the fridge. Or you can ladle it out into individual meals for your dog(s) I would do this or cut the recipe in half if I only had one pup.

Notes

  • This recipe lasts our dogs about 5-6 days. I have an intact male that eats for a 50 lbs dog. He is not fat, but he can sure pack in the food. This recipe is hearty for him and therefore lasts a little longer. My girl can hardly eat without gaining wait so I have to keep her at about 3/4 cup to 1 cup a day where Reds is eating about 1-1/2 to 2 cups of this a day. Some days he needs more some days he needs less. This is something you can learn with your own dogs.
  • If you only have one dog. This might be a great recipe to make and then freeze half of it in the size your dog eats. Then you have emergency meals for your dog. Or you can have different food options so they can have change of flavor every once in a while. I have a picky eater with one of my dogs. He really does get tired of eating the same food, so this works perfectly for us.
