Shampoo for Healthy Skin and Hair
This is my homemade shampoo recipe that I use on my Cockers…I have used this since 2012 and it works so well this is all I use for myself as well. I play with the oils a bit, but each is in it for a reason!
Ingredients:
Dr. Bronner’s Peppermint Soap ~ 1/3 Cup
Water or Organic Tea** ~ 2/3 Cup
*Rosemary ~3-5 drops
*Lavender ~ 5-6 drops
*Melaleuca Oil ~ 3-6 drops
*Cedarwood ~ 5-8 drops
* I use the oils for the benefits they give more than the pleasant aroma they produce. Now, the dogs smell fabulous!
Rosemary – this was really for me to help my hair grow faster, but this can also help your dog in many ways you can look them up. Lavender – helps sooth the skin if there are any irritations, or anything skin related. Melaeuca Oil – this oil is an anti-everything and will help your dog with wounds, skin irritations, etc,. again you can look it up yourself. I like the confidence it gives me to know that if I accidentally cut them or nick them while grooming, this will help their puppy bodies heal. The most important oil you can use is Cedarwood – from ticks, to mosquitoes, along with fleas this oil will help with all of the pesky things.
WARNING: PLEASE DO NOT USE JUST ANY OIL ON YOUR DOG, “YOUNG LIVING” IS ALL I WOULD EVER USE. UNLESS YOU KNOW THE SEED TO SEAL PROCESS, PLEASE BE VERY CAREFUL WITH WHAT YOU USE, YOU CAN HURT YOUR DOG IF YOU USE THE WRONG BRAND. IT WOULD BE BETTER TO NOT USE OILS AT ALL, THEN TO USE THE WRONG ONE.
** I normally make this with Organic Chamomile tea, but we ran out so I made it with Lemon Balm tea. You can use whatever herb you want, but just remember to be careful in the the color and type, because you can ever so slightly dye the hair of your dog using some of the darker teas. Lemon Balm and Chamomile are fine, because they are a lighter colored tea!
